U and Nintendo Land are the only games confirmed for the Wii U launch on Nov. 18, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said that the new console will have more than 50 games by March 2013, the described launch window of the system. Nintendo Land's new Metroid Blast minigame picks up on a prototype gameplay demo Nintendo showed off at E3 2011. The Wii U GamePad holder controls Samus Aran's ship and provides air support while the other players use Wii remotes to control bounty hunters to fight on the ground. The gameplay looked much more gritty than the prototype Nintendo demoed over a year ago, with much improved graphics that seemed significantly more Metroid-like (but still cartoonish and using Nintendo's cute Mii avatars, albeit inside bounty hunter armor and firing weapons). Besides the cooperative mode, Metroid Blast will include a ground-versus-air competitive mode and a ground-only free-for-all that foregoes the use of the Wii U GamePad.
